BOY
MEETS GIRL.
James
Cagney & Pat O Brien,
Marie Wilson, Ralph Bellamy, Frank
McHugh.
Dir: George Abbot, 1938, Warner Bros.
SYNOPSIS:
Two
ker-razy Hollywood writers make a star of an unborn child.
"Like any
number of my films, I never saw Boy Meets Girl. Years later I saw it
on television and it was so much better in the TV version than it seemed
to be when we did it that I can't quite understand it. It's the same
film, but I sense that the years have done something for it, what I don't
know."
- Jimmy Cagney.
REVIEWS:
"Freewheeling
version of a hilarious play with fine crazy performances and excellent
Hollywood satire."
- Leslie Halliwell.
"Satisfactory but not socko."
- Variety.
"It bounces from one hilarious absurdity to
another with all the resilience of a rubber ball."
- MFB. (whatever that
is?)
