THE
BRIDE
CAME C O D.
James
Cagney & Bette Davis, and a bunch of other not very famous
people that I can't be arsed to type in.
Dir: William Keighley,
1941, Warner Bros.
SYNOPSIS:
Good
ol' bad Jimmy Cagney plays a pilot who kidnaps a stroppy posh bint and
then crashes the plane on a desert island. They actually used to pay
people to come up with these ideas!
"Jimmy,
with whom I'd always wanted to work in something fine, spent most of
his time in the picture removing cactus quills from my behind. This was
supposedly hilarious. We romped about in the desert and I kept falling
into cactus. We both reached bottom with this one."
- Bette Davis.
REVIEWS:
"Feeble
comedy with a script unworthy of its stars. The mass of talent
does however provide a smile or two towards the end."
- Leslie Halliwell.
"Both of them mug good-naturedly and it's
pleasantly fast."
- The New Yorker.
