THE
FRISCO KID.
James
Cagney & Margaret Lindsay,
Lili Damita, Barton MacLane, Donald Woods.
Dir: Lloyd Bacon, 1935,
Warner Bros.
SYNOPSIS:
19th
Century pirates raise hell and cause a fuss on the Barbary Coast as our
favourate bootlegger swaps booze for gold.
"One of
them catch-as-catch-can affairs Warner's put out purely because they
had to be put out. By that I mean Frisco Kid had already been sold to
the exhibitors even before a foot of it had been shot or conceived. This
will give give you some idea of its inherent artistic flavour, the picture
was built just the way a Ford Sedan might have been."
- Jimmy Cagney.
REVIEWS:
"A
fair drama with the star in action and (less interestingly) in
love."
- Leslie Halliwell.
"So similar to Barbary
Coast as almost to be its twin but good entertainment nevertheless."
- Variety.
