ILLEGAL.
Edward
G Robinson & Nina Foch, Jayne Mansfield.
Dir: Lewis Allen, 1955, Warner Bros.
Written by Little Caesar author, W R Burnett.
SYNOPSIS:
A mob boss loses control of his lawyer and gets sent down
by him in the end.
"Of
course his hearing was going. At one point I was trying to give him instructions
and I just wasn't getting through. Eddie Jr leaned over and told him
to put in his hearing aid. He'd always call me 'kid' or 'a goddamn fucking
machine' if I wanted to work too hard or too quickly. And I'll always
remember that no one could steal a scene better than Robinson. He'd make
a move or something and Marty would say to me: 'Watch him, watch him.'
Marty would say that scene stealing was taught in the Yiddish Theater
- but Eddy didn't act in the Yiddish Theater. He just knew the cameras.
I don't think he even realised it."
- Wally Grauman, producer and director.
