SEVEN
THIEVES.
Edward
G Robinson & Rod Steiger,
Joan Collins, Eli Wallach, Michael Dante.
Dir: Henry Hathaway, 1960, TCF.
SYNOPSIS:
Never
seen this one but apparently it's crap due to a completely unfunny performance
by Steiger. Which is a shame.
"Rod Steiger
had first billing as one of Robinson's cohorts. Robinson's character
(a gangster trying to make one last score by robbing a Monte Carlo casino)
suffers a fatal heart attack and Steiger goes straight. It was only mediocre
fare, but Robinson didn't worry about it any longer. It was not his name
and reputation that were at risk. He was no longer a headliner."
- Alan Gansberg, E G Robinson biographer.
"Christ.
It was supposed to be a fun film, and Steiger is far, far from having
a sense of humour."
- Henry Hathaway.
REVIEWS:
"Routine
caper story, efficiently presented with some humour."
- Leslie Halliwell.
