VICE SQUAD
AKA
THE GIRL IN ROOM 17.
Edward
G Robinson & Paulette Goddard,
Katie Stevens, Porter Hall, Lee Van Cleef.
Dir: Arnold Lavern, 1953, United Artists.
SYNOPSIS:
Sparkling
Eddy Robinson plays a straight laced copper hunting down two police-murderin'
thugs.
"He was
absolutely the quintessential pro. He was marvellous. Whenever we came
to the house with someone he had never met before he would stop everything
and show the man the paintings. That always gave him the most joy. Robinson
treated us marvellously and gave his all. There was a clause in his contract
that he didn't have to work beyond six o' clock. Occaisionally, we would
have to work past this time. We'd approach him about it and he'd look
at us with a twinkle in his eye and say 'For 50 Upmans I'll work.',
Upmans were his favourite cigars then. We were in awe of him."
- Arthur Gardner, Vice Squad producer.
REVIEWS:
"A
day in the life of a police captain, quite watchable but scarcely engrossing."
- Leslie Halliwell.
