PAPER TIGER comix submissions

Submission: If you want to submit your work to the anthology get in touch with a sample of your comic art. You can email us a link to a website or send art which is under 10MB per email.

The content guidelines are broad and diverse: alternative, underground, humourous/ funnies, satirical, serious, autobiographical, mythological, mature, counter-culture, zine comics, leftfield and all that jazz but we are trying to avoid the generic teeny superhero genre altogether, unless you're coming from a fresh viewpoint or send-up angle.. Most types of comics are considered as long as the content is not purely pornography or is any kind of bigotry propaganda. Nor are we an anthology to promote formulaic genre, as there are far too many of those already on the market.

As editor & founder of Paper Tiger Comix, I aim to promote the self-publishing/small press/D.I.Y. comics approach and help make links and a supportive, positive network for creators. Potential Paper Tigers should be willing to donate cash, time and effort to the production, promotion and distribution of the finished comic. People contribute a small amount financially for print and duplication costs and get a fair share of the large finished print run which as a result works out so much cheaper than printing comics up yourself.

COMPLIMENTARY COPIES: Each contributor will receive a complimentary copy of the anthology and any free gifts.

Overseas contributors may have to pay a half share of the shipping cost however

Comic Specifics: Paper Tiger allocates its artists roughly up to four pages each issue and the size of the finished comic is A5 (14.85cm x 21cm or 5.5” x 8”) so artists’ pages need to be reduced to this size and sent to us. It is recommended that original strips be no bigger than A4 or A3, or they will get lost in reduction. Digital images need to be a minimum 500dpi resolution and can be supplied on PC format CD or Zip (Tiff file format is best) or by email if a gif or jpeg. Alternatively you can artwork to us by post and we can return it when finished. Paper Tiger Comix are printed in Black & White or Grayscale, Covers are full colour. It is important that Greyscale & Colour work is sent a 600dpi as otherwise quality will be lost when going to the printer.

Rates and Comic Share Ratio:
The Antholgies are all FREE to submit too, but you also have the option of chipping in with funds and receive a share of the print run.

Each contributor can have up to 6 pages an issue unless otherwise stated differently per project . Everybody who decides to contribute finacially to the print share option pays a flat rate of £14 for paper/print costs and then a £2 a page increase up to 4 pages then £3 a page after this (this is because 5 or 6 pages means less contributors which means less money to pay for the comic). Currently, the perfect bound books average at £2.85 per unit to print & will be retailing at £5.99 a book, so you have the chance to make yourself some nice profit & circulate your work. You will receive a proportionate share of the comics (subject to change for future issues as printing quality improves):

1 page submission: £14 ($23) contribution.
Share of comics: 4copies

-------------------------------
2 page submission: £16 ($28)
Share of comics: 6 copies
-------------------------------
3 page submission: £18 ($34)
Share of comics: 7copies
-------------------------------
4 page submission: £20 ($36)
Share of comics: 8 copies
-------------------------------
5 page submission: £23 ($40)
Share of comics: 9 copies
-------------------------------
6 page submission: £26 ($48)
Share of comics: 10 copies
-------------------------------

If you live outside of Brighton and can't collect then you may have to half the cost of postage or shipping costs too as I am not a rich man! I will work these individual costs out for you after printing. They shouldn’t be too high. If other copies from the print run are available and you want to sell more, it is possible to chip in for more copies at the above price range.

Intellectual Property:
All artwork remains intellectual property of the individual artist but by agreeing to using your work in Paper Tiger Comix you are willing that the editor(s) can use your artwork in the anthology as well as in related promotional material (including being used on the website) which has the benefit of being free promotion of your work. Any work being used will be credited to the artist and will include contact info if provided by the artist. Contact us for more info.
